A retrospective look at the West Di Lido Residence
- Hilary Lewis
[Express] the notions of modernism and mid-century ideals using thick horizontal slabs to equalize and punctuate the levels of living.
- Aligned thickly to the horizon.
- Clarified by stretched vertical steel columns.
- Louvered to provide a continuous flow from interior to exterior.
Expressed linear fashion through imaginative faculty. Stately horizontal slabs separate the roof and second floor structure in handsome style. This horizontal expression occurs in both the Biscayne Bay waterfront wing and the street-side wing while also flanking a central garden courtyard. The entirety is complemented by floor-to-ceiling louvered doors, which open to the balconies and provide a continuous flow from interior to exterior spaces.
Upon entrance, the homeowner’s unique water feature designed by a local Miami artist with a Swarovski Crystal Chandelier steal your attention. Each bathroom is unique with custom marble throughout and unlacquered brass Vola fixtures. Exposed concrete, a renowned art collection, local custom millwork, custom wine room with a glass feature wall all continue piquing the eye on the interior.
